Background
I am a pre-doctoral clinical psychology intern at California State Polytechnic University, Pomona‘s (Cal Poly Pomona) Counseling and Psychological Services. As a pre-doctoral intern, my clinical work is conducted under the supervision of a licensed clinical psychologist. I am a doctoral candidate at the California School of Professional Psychology at Alliant International University (anticipated Psy.D., June 2012). Once my doctoral dissertation is defended, I will be doing my post-doctoral fellowship at Cal Poly Pomona.
I am an active member of the American Psychological Association, the California Psychological Association, and the National Register for Health Service Providers in Psychology. I was awarded the National Psychologist Trainee Register Credentialing Scholarship in April 2010.
I earned my bachelor of arts (B.A.) in criminal justice studies while minoring in psychology at San Francisco State University. I attended law school for a little over one year and worked as a judicial clerk and law clerk before deciding that I wanted to work as a mental health practitioner and researcher. While I enjoyed the study of law, I was quite moved by the role of mental health professionals in legal proceedings and mediation. I then received my masters (M.A.) in clinical psychology from the APA-accredited California School of Professional Psychology in San Francisco.
Working with undergraduate and graduate students in a university is another passion of mine. Young adults face immense pressure because of societal and familial expectations. A student may face various obstacles during their transition from adolescent to young adult, despite having a motivation and ambition to succeed academically and professionally. As an individual who overcame various socioeconomic challenges, I was able to attend law school and graduate school because of the support and guidance I received from important individuals and mentors in my life.
My research interests include identification of factors that contribute to quality of life, especially as it pertains to college populations, people with chronic illness, and cultural minorities. My clinical and research interests also include men’s issues and LGBTQ issues from a social justice perspective.
My CV is available here.
Hi, Joshua!
I noticed at the bottom of your background description that you are looking at mental health issues of PLHIV as well as part of your research interest. I just would like to let you know that we are organising an international seminar on “Socio-Economic and Mental Health Burdens of HIV/AIDS in Developing Countries” in November; perhaps that would be of interest to you.
Please check out our website (http://iigh.unu.edu) at the conference section for more details.
If this is unwelcome, my apologies.
Have a nice day!
Thank you for the information.
